Biography
Dick Frizzell - Modern
Dick Frizzell 1943 - Frizzell has become known as one of New Zealand's most figuritive Painters - someone who can turn convincingly to anything from portraits to abstracts. He now tutors Art at Elam and has studied Art extensively here in New Zealand and overseas. He has won many awards for his work. In 1978 a show of Frizzells work depicting crudely rendered can labels attracted a lot of attention. This introduced to the public the Artists personal style: expressionst pop. In 1987 Frizzell went into landscapes in a way that other contemporary artists had not and developed a very modern style that soon won over sceptics as people realised his powerful use of paint could transform the more historic landscapes into more vibrant and moving paintings.
